The Commonwealth Youth Games are restricted for athletes under the age of 18 (or whose 18th birthday is in the year of the Games). Every Commonwealth nation and territory is invited to participate in the Youth Games.
The first Games were held in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2000. 14 countries (including Canada), sent 733 athletes who competed for 483 medals over 3 days in 8 sports.
The next Commonwealth Youth Games will take place in Samoa, in 2015
