Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) is currently inviting applications for two (2) SportWORKS Officer (SO) positions for the SportWORKS – Sport for Newcomers (S4N) Initiative.

On behalf of CGC, SO’s are responsible and accountable for the transfer of sport knowledge and capacity building at Newcomer Service Organizations (NSOs) for staff and volunteers, developing resources/materials, building partnerships with local sport organizations, seeking local program funding opportunities, and assisting with the accumulation of data for baseline results of pilot monitoring and evaluation for future programming and longitudinal indicators.

The ideal candidate has a post secondary education—or is a senior university student—in the field of Sport Management, Sport Administration, Health, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, Recreation or has related experience. The position requires strong attention to detail, teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in writing, and an ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders from diverse populations, including immigrants and refugees, while practicing cultural sensitivity and awareness. Also required is the skill to plan and execute programs and events, the capacity to motivate others and impart knowledge through 1-on-1 sessions or through group training sessions and to work unsupervised and remain self motivated. Technology skills (Windows OS, MS Office & Outlook, presentation and database management software ) are required.

This is an 8-month, full-time, volunteer position (5 days/week) and starts on August 5thin Toronto or Edmonton and requires attendance at a Pre-Departure Training Session on July 19th in Ottawa. This position reports to the SportWORKS Program Manager.

SportWORKS Officer placements are volunteer internships, however, CGC will cover some costs by providing a monthly living allowance of $1000. In addition to a living allowance, CGC will cover the costs associated with training in Ottawa and travel-related expenses.
