Brittany Rogers, Dominique Pegg win two more medals at gymnastics World Cup in Germany

COTTBUS, Germany (March 25, 2012) -- Brittany Rogers of Coquitlam, B.C. and Dominique Pegg of Sarnia, Ont., each won a bronze medal at a gymnastics World Cup on Sunday to cap a strong showing for both Canadian gymnasts vying for a spot at the 2012 Olympics.

Rogers, fresh from winning her first-ever World Cup gold medal on Saturday in the women’s vault, added a bronze on the balance beam on Sunday with a score of 13.526 points. Vasiliki Millousi of Greece won gold with 14.425 points and Israel's Valeriia Maksyuta took the silver with a score of 14.175.

"I am really trying to polish my routines and get more confidence with them and I feel like I made a huge step with this in Cottbus," said Rogers. "I know what I need to work on in the gym, and I'm excited to keep pushing myself to make that Olympic team."

Pegg, competing for just the second time since breaking her hand at the Pan Am Games last October, picked up her bronze medal with a new, crowd pleasing floor routine.

"I was just focusing on getting back into competing again and now I just have to focus on perfecting my routines and keeping in top shape,” said Pegg, who successfully landed a difficult double layout on her first tumbling pass and ended with a strong double pike.

Romania's Diana Chelaru rocked her "Rock Around the Clock" music to win gold on floor (14.375). Uzbekistan's Luiza Galiulina scored 13.75, and Pegg tied for third with  Kim Bui of Germany with identical scores of 13.725.

Pegg was one of the busiest competitors at Cottbus, placing fifth on vault and eighth on beam after qualifying for three out of four event finals.
