Fifteen new Caribbean Coaches trained in revamped Coaching Program

On January 21, 2012, 15 coaches from 13 countries across the Caribbean region completed the first hosting of the Caribbean Coaching Certificate Program with revised materials.  There were smiles all around as participants felt happy to have gotten the packed 2-day workshop.

It was only the day before that these participants had gathered for the opening ceremony at the Arnos Vale Cricket Ground, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, venue of the workshop.  At the ceremony they were encouraged by the Minister of Sport SVG, Mr. Frederick Stevenson and the President of the SVGOC respectively to make the most of the 2 days and that they did as facilitators, Dave Farmer (Regional Coordinator, CCCP) and Angel Morales (Chairman Education Committee, CANOC) took them through the materials.

“This workshop was very good and we learned a lot.  I intend to use what I have learnt back home in Guadeloupe” Harry Mephon.  Newly trained coaches were identified by their NOC’s to attend this workshop and they are now charged with the responsibility of working toward executing workshops with grassroots coaches in the upcoming months.

Regional coordinator of the CCCP, Dave Farmer was also satisfied by the workshop as he explained that the revision process was a long one as just under a year ago a small committee from the University of Trinidad and Tobago Academy of Sport and Leisure Studies provided the first input for the upgrading of the materials.  This was eventually passed on to Dr. Colin Higgs who completed a very comprehensive upgrade of the materials ensuring that it was infused with the most contemporary concepts in sport coaching and that it was organized in a user friendly and coherent manner.
