FABIV divers lead Canada to three medals at Pan Am Games

TORONTO – FABIV divers Roseline Filion of Laval, Que., and Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal won the silver and bronze medal on Saturday on women’s 10-m tower at the Pan American Games. Philippe Gagné of Montreal added a bronze on men’s three-metre.On women’s tower, Paola Espinosa of Mexico was the winner with 383.20 points, Filion followed at 377.60 and Benfeito took third at 357.45.With the victory Espinosa locks up the sole Olympic berth that was on the line in this event. However the Canadians can get their two spots with top-12 finishes at the FINA World Championships later this month in Russia."It’s too bad I didn’t win a gold but I can’t be disappointed with that performance," said Filion. "I feel I was very consistent and just lacked aggressiveness on my dives." Benfeito was hoping to fare better. "My last two dives really cost me," said Benfeito. |I`m not sure what happened, the height on my take-off was good and I just made errors that I never do on those dives. For me I just need to go out and recreate what I do in training.| On men’s three-metre, Mexico was 1-2 with Rommel Pacheco first at 483.35, Jahir Ocampo second at 444.15 and Gagné third at 411.55. François Imbeau-Dulac of St-Lazare, Que., was sixth. "I'm extremely happy with the result, said Gagne. "It was one of my goals here — even if I wasn't sure I could get it [a medal] — so to see that this dream is finally real, it's really amazing." Diving action continues Sunday with the men’s 10-metre and women’s three-metre. Full results: http://results.toronto2015.org/IRS/en/diving/schedule-and-results.htm
