Canadian Commonwealth Sport Awards

The Canadian Commonwealth Sport Awards launched in 2016 is an expanded Awards Program from CGC's original Award of Merit and Significant Contribution Awards.

If you are interested in nominating a 2018 Commonwealth Games Athletes and /or Coach to be considered for the 2018 Canadian Commonwealth Sport Awards, please complete and submit the attached nomination application to kelly@commonwealthgames.ca by 4:00pm ET on Monday, July 9, 2018.

OBJECTIVE(S):

  1. To celebrate and honor individuals and organizations who have made a significant contribution to the Commonwealth sport movement in Canada and/or abroad.
  2. Increase the Canadian public’s awareness of the Commonwealth sport movement and CGC, and  
  3. To provide a vehicle for fundraising.

 

AWARD CATEGORIES:

SPORT EXCELLENCE

Athlete Award:  This award recognizes and celebrates outstanding athletic performances of individual athletes, an entire team, or an individual athlete within a team sport if their contributions are exemplary and warrant special recognition apparent from the remainder of the team. The athletes must have competed in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.  The athlete/team must be a member in good standing with their respective National Sport Organization (NSO). 

Coach Award:  This award recognizes and celebrates outstanding coaching performance of an individual or coaching team. The coach(es) must have been responsible for the full-time training of a 2018 Commonwealth Games Canada athlete or team. (The nominee may or may not have attended the 2018 Games).  The coach must be a member in good standing with his or her respective National Sport Organization (NSO).   

VOLUNTEER EXCELLENCE

Award of Merit (Builder):  An individual who has made distinguished, lasting and valuable contributions to furthering the aims and objectives of Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) and the Commonwealth Games Foundation of Canada (CGFC), both domestically and internationally.  Builder nominees may be either active or inactive at the time of their consideration. Click here for Previous Award Recipients.

SPORT DEVELOPMENT EXCELLENCE

SportWORKS Award: An individual recognized for their exceptional contributions during their international placement with CGC. The award is presented to a SportWORKS Officer who has made a significant contribution to the development of sport. Recipient selection for this award is based on the nominee’s contribution to the development of sport (at any level) in Commonwealth countries around the world. 

Beyond the Podium Award:  Recognizes the contributions and achievements that a partnering organization or individual has made in using sport as a tool to drive development.  This award is presented to a current or former CGC partner organization or Individual that has made significant contributions towards development through sport.  Recipient selection for this award is based on the nominee’s contribution to social development in their community or country.

PARTNERSHIP EXCELLENCE

Outstanding Partner Award:  The Outstanding Partner Award serves to recognize the extraordinary support provided to CGC/CGFC by a valued, external organization.  Without that support, CGC/CGFC could not meet its goals.
